Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, April 22, 2012. Pastor Tim tells us what the Bible has meant, and means, to him, in preparation for the upcoming Bible reading challenge (throughout the month of May). The four main points include 1) believe in God, and the gift of God, 2) don't hesitate to ask for help, 3) HEAR the words literally, and 4) anticipate asking questions. For more information about the Bible reading challenge, contact the church office. The Word among us Canyons and bridges 13.7 MB

Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, April 8, 2012. The text is John 20:1-18. Ponder what it means that Jesus promised to "be with" his disciples in a type of heavenly reunion, but also to actually be with them always. How is Jesus with you, right now, in your life circumstances? Easter was, and is, and is to come Keeping faith in a 'crowded' world 11.7 MB
Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, April 1, 2012. The text is Mark 11:1-11. This Palm Sunday sermon helps us to reflect on the ways in which we unwittingly 'join the crowd,' despite our best intentions. Keeping faith in a 'crowded' world Sermon on the Mount in the hot zone 9.1 MB
Pastor Matt Hickman Sunday, March 25, 2011. The texts are Psalm 51:1-12 and John 12:20-33. Lingering in the Lenten season brings us in touch with our own shortcomings so that we might more fully rely on God. Yet even in the midst of Lent, we know how the story goes; we are resurrection people no matter the season. As the body of Christ, we are the hands and feet of the Gospel. But we must ponder how, while doing good, we avoid the temptation of seeing ourselves as saviors. Sermon on the Mount in the hot zone Staying on the right side 9.7 MB
Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, March 18, 2012. The text is Ephesians 2:1-10. There is biblical evidence that we ARE saved, and that we are BEING saved. Ponder how both apply to your life, and what this has meant for you. Our God is the God of life, and it is God's desire that we experience both of these. Staying on the right side Sacred Cows and Sore Toes 10.3 MB
Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, March 11, 2012. The text is John 2:13-22. Being challenged is one thing, as long as it doesn't touch certain topics. What would you suppose might be the challenge this week? And are we able to hear it as a "divine challenge" rather than a rude interruption? The YouTube video Why I Hate Religion, But Love Jesus may be viewed at http://youtu.be/1IAhDGYlpqY. A priestly detour 12.4 MB
Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, March 4, 2012. The text was Mark 8:31-38. How is it that the priest in the story of the good Samaritan does not "take up his cross"? Once again, Kenneth E. Bailey's book Jesus Through Middle Eastern Eyes provides very helpful insight and background. A priestly detour Covenant Keepers 9.8 MB
Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, February 26, 2012. The text is Mark 1:9-15. February 26 is the first Sunday of Lent this year. As preparation for this Sunday's worship service, it was suggested that each person might write out the sermon text in their own handwriting. On your own handwritten copy of Mark 1:9-15, make a note of all the covenants into which you have entered in your life (think of vows, promises, contracts, or other commitments). Covenant Keepers From blockhead to rock 5.7 MB
Pastor Matt Hickman Sunday, February 19, 2012. The text is Luke 5:1-10. Listen to this story of an ordinary fisherman, a common man. Chosen as one of Jesus' twelve disciples, Peter experienced moments of clarity and moments of great confusion, times of faith and times of doubt. Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, February 12, 2012. The text is Matthew 6:9-13. The focus this week is on the phrase, "Lead us not into temptation." Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, February 5, 2012. The text is Matthew 6:7-13. This sermon, and the February 12 sermon, are based on the Lord's Prayer in Matthew. Our Father, in heaven Reading the Bible for all its worth 11.0 MB
Pastor Matt Hickman Sunday, January 29, 2012. The texts are Genesis 17:1-14 and Acts 10:45-11:23. Growing up, Pastor Matt was urged by his church to take the Bible literally, and he took this seriously. As absurd as it sounds, he spent sleepless nights wondering if he could wear poly-cotton shirts (Leviticus 19:19), or whether he should gouge out his eyes after watching late-night cable programming (Matthew 5:28-29). His crisis of literalism came after calling out his pastor for supporting the Gulf War, only to be told the Sermon on the Mount was not intended to be taken literally. Pastor Matt helpfully and with integrity outlines how to take the Bible seriously, even when it seems to disagree with itself or to contradict science, or pushes us out of our comfort zones. The Bible is indeed "the fully reliable and trustworthy standard for Christian faith and life" (from the Confession of Faith in a Mennonite Perspective). Reading the Bible for all its worth Praise God from whom all blessings flow 14.4 MB
Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, January 22, 2012. The text is 2 Corinthians 9:6-15. The flow of blessings can either be free and generous, or "dammed up." How does the body of Christ guard against such a system? That all might be blessed Deeply Rooted for Growth 12.0 MB
Pastor Tim Schrag Sunday, January 8, 2012. The texts are Matthew 13:1-9 and Psalm 1:1-3. The focus is on habits which establish our spiritual "subsoil," which, if fully charged, can nourish us even in dry times. Deeply Rooted for Growth Regifting 9.7 MB
